Dr Shahid Latif

Dr. Shahid Latif is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Medical Director at St. Matthews Healthcare. He started his training in psychiatry in 1997 initially in the Republic of Ireland and then England. He has 15 years of experience in medical management building productive relationships at all levels, pioneering innovative mental health systems and clinical development processes, leading change in teaching programmes, setting standards for mental health care advancement and improving the quality of people’s lives. The Royal College of Psychiatrists recognised his huge contribution towards mental health care, awareness, education and service delivery by honoring him with a Fellowship in October 2017. He also received clinical excellence awards in 2012 and 2018. He is currently the Chair of RCPsych Trent Division and the British Pakistani Psychiatrists Association and former chair of RCPsych Transcultural SIG. He is a an examiner for the MRCPsych exams and offers mentorship to international medical graduates.  In 2022-23, he was recognised as one of the ‘Top 75 notable British Pakistani academics, trainers and teachers in the UK’. In 2023 he was nominated as the Royal College of Psychiatrists ‘Communicator of the Year’. He is on the BBC Asian Networks panel of experts for mental health and hosts his own radio health show during Ramadan. He worked with the Ministry of Planning and Development of Pakistan in 2021 facilitating the development of the national questionnaire for the youth on mental health as part of the ‘KAMYAAB JAWAAN’ initiative and also worked on formulating a psychological wellbeing booklet for elite athletes at the invitation of the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board in 2021.
