Aamer Sajjad


Dr. Aamer Malik Sajjad is a graduate of Rawalpindi Medical College and currently serves as the Treasurer for the British Pakistani Psychiatrists Association (since 2022). He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (FRCPsych) and a CASC examiner with the College. Additionally, Dr. Sajjad is the Regional Advisor for the Royal College of Psychiatrists' Trent Division and an elected Executive Member of the College’s General Adult Faculty. He represents the General Adult Faculty as a co-opted member of the Psychopharmacology Committee.

As the Executive Medical Director, Dr. Sajjad specializes in Clinical Governance and Medical Education. He is the Responsible Officer for the Designated Body and collaborates closely with NHS England and the General Medical Council to implement robust medical governance, appraisal, and revalidation processes. He also serves as the Caldicott Guardian, chairs various committees, and has authored several policies and peer-reviewed journal articles. Furthermore, Dr. Sajjad is an honorary senior lecturer at Hull York Medical School.

Dr. Sajjad completed his training in General Psychiatry in London and Liverpool. During his senior training, he earned a Master’s (MSc) in Health and Social Care Management from Liverpool John Moores University. Currently, he is a Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry and provides expert medical management to service users as the Responsible Clinician for the Assertive Outreach Team in North East Lincolnshire.

He has expertise in mental health legislation and is the joint lead for the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) across multiple providers in the local authority area. Additionally, he is the executive director lead for the pharmacy committee, as well as for the MCA and Mental Health Act (MHA) within the organization. Dr. Sajjad has also conducted national seminars and teachings on Mental Health Legislation across psychiatry and acute hospital settings.

A renowned speaker on contemporary issues in mental health, Dr. Sajjad has contributed to the professional development of individuals and organizations. He has presented programs promoting mental health awareness on social media and television.

Dr. Sajjad has a special interest in service development and promoting psychiatry as a career, both nationally and internationally. He has led the organization to become an Approved Sponsoring Body for GMC registration and has recruited overseas psychiatrists with various levels of training and expertise under the GMC sponsorship scheme, the MTI and WAST programs, and the PLAB and Membership of Royal College initiatives.

Dr. Sajjad’s vision emphasizes inclusivity, the advocacy for individuals suffering from mental health issues, and the education and training of everyone involved in psychiatry, including service users, careers and professionals.
